We need all the help we can get - funding for these programs ends in TWO DAYS! In March of 2013 CEDEJO's Director, Sylvia Flores, was contacted by Sheila Poettgen, who in honor of International Women's Day, offered to volunteer her services to help CEDEJO meet their mission goals. As someone who had devoted her life to working with non-profit organizations, Sheila was well-versed in addressing the needs and struggles of a non-profit organization. Her years of experience as a network administrator, computer support technician and an artist had led her to a natural career in website design. After discussing CEDEJO's current needs and reviewing Sheila's skillset, Sylvia determined that she could best help by increasing CEDEJO's visibility online and by updating their informational material. Sheila offered to volunteer her time toward fulfilling the following needs:
We've been very excited to see the virtual and visual transformation of CEDEJO unfold over the last few months and we're so happy to have Sheila on board as a CEDEJO volunteer. Check out the before and after photos of the CEDEJO website transformation below. What a difference this has made to helping promote CEDEJO's work and mission!  OUR WEBSITE BEFORE  OUR WEBSITE AFTER  CEDEJO's Director, Sylvia Flores, visiting with a patient at the women's health clinic in Tepehua Community Center. Twice a week for the past two years CEDEJO volunteers, along with Director and Registered Nurse, Sylvia Flores, visit the Tepehua Community Center to provide free breast examinations, pap smears and family counseling to the women of Tepehua. The Tepehua community is one of the poorest and most vulnerable barrios in Jalisco. Without CEDEJO, many of the girls and women of this community would go without necessary and preventative gynecological care. Unfortunately, the local organization that has provided financial support for the clinic over the last two years is unable to continue funding due to restrictions beyond their or CEDEJO's control. Unless another funding source becomes available, CEDEJO will have to close the clinic at the end of August 2013. The clinic’s work is too important to give up on. After two years, regular counseling and exams have helped the community to make great strides forward in relation to women’s health and empowerment. When Sheila Poettgen, a volunteer for CEDEJO, heard that the clinic might be forced to close it's doors due to lack of funds, she decided to begin a personal online fundraising campaign to try to raise the funds necessary to keep the clinic open for another year. Although she had no experience with fundraising, nor any idea of where to begin, she explains how her campaign was born: "I felt heartbroken that the clinic might be forced to close its doors. It did not seem just that women who were my neighbors might be denied something that I had been privileged to receive throughout my lifetime. I felt I needed to do more. It was then that I decided to start a fundraising campaign to attempt to raise the money needed to keep the doors of the clinic open for another year."
