Reproductive Care ClinicThe foundation of CEDEJO's work is providing reproductive health education, access to birth control & family planning methods, and preventative health services (i.e. pap smears & breast examinations) to women & girls. All other programs build upon these basic human rights (of women having choice & access to birth control, services & education). Read more news & updates about CEDEJO's clinic.

Promoting access to basic menstrual health supplies
Program Goal:
We seek to break the cycle of poverty and violence against women by promoting access to basic menstrual health supplies, in conjunction with educating women & girls about their health, puberty, reproductive anatomy & their cycle, and hygiene.
We seek to break the cycle of poverty and violence against women by promoting access to basic menstrual health supplies, in conjunction with educating women & girls about their health, puberty, reproductive anatomy & their cycle, and hygiene.
In 2016, CEDEJO was the first in the Lake Chapala region to collaborate with Days for Girls International as a distribution ambassador for women's health training. We delivered washable menstrual kits to Huichol women who live in a remote region of the Sierra Madre mountain range.
Since 2018, CEDEJO's primary focus has been on distributing menstrual cups and health care training to girls through their Menstrual Cup and Hygiene Management Program. Menstrual cups are safer than traditional menstrual products. They are made of medical grade silicone vs. toxic materials, can be easily and quickly cleaned, and are reusable for up to 10 years. The environmental impact of using a cup is significant; only generating ~6% of the plastic waste from tampons and only .4% of disposable pads. Since cups provide superior leak protection and can be worn for up to 12 hours at a time, they also provide greater freedom and confidence to girls and women; allowing them to go to school, play sports, and live life without worry or preoccupation about their periods. Most importantly, menstrual cups are much cheaper; on average, just 5% of the cost of pads and 7% of the cost of tampons, a benefit especially important for low-income communities and developing countries. |
$80,000 MXN covers 6 months of menstrual cup deliveries and workshops . Donate here. |

Mobile Medical Care Unit 2014-2015
CEDEJO's mobile health unit served seven economically-challenged communities on Lake Chapala’s north shore, attending specifically to the health needs of women. Services the team provided included family planning counseling, breast cancer screening, pap smears and general educational advice. In addition, every Sunday nine women in low-income communities in Ribera de Chapala were transported in the mobile health unit to the health center in Guadalajara where they receive ultrasound and mammography for the cost of 50 pesos. Women working to support their families and who likely earn an average of 40 pesos an hour would have to invest between 450 and 500 pesos to get these tests done in Chapala. Women from the communities of San Juan Cosala, Tlachichilco, Tepehua, San Juan Tecomatlán, San Nicolas de Ibarra, and Santa Cruz de la Soledad were served. The mobile program was sustained by an anonymous benefactor and was operated in cooperation with Health Outreach for Women. |
"Women: Power of Life" Empowerment Workshops
2013-2014
Due to existing problems in rural communities in the Rivera of Chapala (such as poverty, marginalization of women, domestic violence & women's lack of access to economic resources and information about reproductive rights) CEDEJO created the “Women: Power of Life” program, which sought to support the empowerment & development of women in these communities. The program offered specialized training which supported women's health & well-being, promoted equality and gender rights, and gave women resources for them to improve their personal growth and economic development.

A Pilot Project of the program was successfully completed in 2014 with 18 women in the Tepehua community in Chapala, Jalisco, MX over a 9 month period, which resulted in women creating circles of support and many of the women creating their own projects which helped them earn money & move toward financial independence.
